Never Fails: "Election Upholds God's Character" Part III

September 21, 2014 Speaker: Eric Baker Series: Never Fails

Passage: Romans 9:22–9:23

Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching on Romans 9:23-24, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

Read Deuteronomy 29:29 and Isaiah 55:8-9. Why is it crucial to cling to this understanding of God and His work in redemptive history?

How does sin, satan, and death distort our view of God even when we hear the truths of Romans 9:22-23?

Read these passages. Psalm 115:3, Proverbs 16:9, Proverbs 19:21, Psalm 135:6, Isaiah 45:7, Proverbs 16:4, Proverbs 16:33. What do these scriptures tells about God and how is at work in the world?

Read these statements from Sunday’s sermon

We all have fallen short of God’s perfect standard: Romans 3:23

No one seeks God on their own: Romans 3:10-11

No one can understand the things of God: 1 Corinthians 2:14

All of our intentions are wicked: Genesis 6:5

Our hearts are deceitful: Jeremiah 17:9

Even the “good” things we do are filthy: Isaiah 64:4

We do not become this, we are born this way: Psalm 51:5, Psalm 58:3

We are slaves to sin: Romans 6:20, Titus 3:3

We inherited our sin nature from Adam: Romans 5:12,18,  1 Corinthians 15:22a

Because we are sinners, we cannot choose good: Job 14:4, Matthew 7:18, Jeremiah 13:23

The result and penalty of all this is physical and spiritual death: Ephesians 2:1 “Romans 6:23

Why is it important for us to remember who we are? Expound on this quote, “We are hopeless but we are not without hope.”

Why should we respond in a life of worship because of these truths?
