Passage: Matthew 21:1–11

MISSIONAL COMMUNITY QUESTIONS

1.Pray and re-read Matthew 21:1-11 (If possible listen to the sermons again). As mentioned on Sunday to get the full picture of the events take a moment to find and read the perspective in Mark, Luke, John. Any new insights?

2. In looking over your notes from Sunday, what was the most important truth from God's Word? Was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

3.  What is the significance of the Old Testament in Matthew's gospel, especially in quotes and images seen in 21:1-11 (Daniel 9, Zechariah 9, 2 Kings 9:13, Psalm 118:26)?  What do the fulfillment/images reveal about Jesus?

4.  What is the twist in the story?  How is this a temptation for us living in a "christian" culture?  How are we prone to use the right words, hand motions, prayer, and church participation, yet miss who Jesus is? Is it possible that our American Church culture has missed what it means to daily worship Jesus?  Pray for God to reveal your heart/motivations for daily worship.  Take a moment as a faith family and confess.

5. How do you respond when Jesus doesn't meet your expectations?  How is Jesus better than a counterfiet Jesus?

6.  When is the last time you have wept over your unbelif (sins=ommission/commission)?  When is the last time you have wept for the unbelief of our city, nation, world?
