Exodus 15:22-27: Bitter Made Sweet

May 16, 2021 Speaker: Justin Crowe Series: Exodus

Passage: Exodus 15:22–27

  1. Re-read Exodus 15:22-27. If possible, listen to the sermon(s) again.

  1. Looking back over your notes from this weeks sermon (or the past few weeks in Exodus) what was the most important truth from God's Word? Was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged you, or confused you? Any questions?

  1. Find scriptures that show or describe God being near to us. Share with the group and discuss. I feel like this past week was kind of a doozy for a lot of people. I thought this text was sovereignly timely for our church. I believe hearing God’s Word speak for itself through these texts might be the very sav we all need.

  1. Disappointment is a part of life. It happens to us all. Think of a time when you were disappointed and grumbling. Looking back were you grumbling at the situation, others, or was it really just God you were grumbling against?

  1. Think of times when you had the right to grumble and complain i.e. when someone has wronged you. How did God use that instance to humble you? Test you? Discipline you? How have you drawn closer to him because of it?

  1. ..think of a time when you were simply acting like the Israelites, a time when you were complaining and should not have been. Maybe it was a time that was your own fault but you wanted to blame someone else, maybe blaming God in the process. How did God use that instance to humble you? Test you? Discipline you? How have you drawn closer to him because of it?

  1. Looking at questions 4 and 5, how do you tell the difference between the two? How do you know when God is teaching you through times where being disappointed is a valid response and times when you are simply being childish and entitled?

  1. Read Matthew 6:33 and Romans 8:12-17. Now put on your theologian hat and combine the truths of these two verses. How do they both apply to our sermon text?
