Exodus 24: Covenant In Christ

October 31, 2021 Speaker: Eric Baker Series: Exodus

Passage: Exodus 24

MISSION COMMUNITY QUESTIONS

1. Reread Exodus 24. If possible, listen to the sermon(s) again.
2. Looking back over this sermon and this sermon series, how has God convicted your heart, stirred your affections for Jesus, drawn you closer to Him? How has the Word challenged, confused, or made you ask questions?
3. We see both life-giving elements and death warning elements in this covenant between God and his people. How do we see this theme throughout the rest of the scripture? How does this specifically point us to the cross? And more importantly, why does it have to be this way in order for God to remain God?
4. To reap the benefits of the promises of this covenant the Israelites had to uphold their end of it and remain obedient to God’s commandments. Remembering that we can, in no way, earn or deserve salvation, how is this very same thing true of the gospel promise of salvation through faith alone in Jesus?
5. Read Ephesians 2:8. Then read James 2:17 and Philippians 2:12b. How do you reconcile these passages? People will accuse them of contradicting each other. In light of Exodus 24, and the theme of covenant in scripture, how would you show that they do not contradict?
