Passage: Matthew 5:21–26

MISSIONAL COMMUNITY QUESTIONS

1. There are two ways in which we can use others as our standard for righteousness.
What are these two ways and which are you tempted most to do?
What is the danger in both?

2. How does it make you feel to imagine Jesus as angry? Why? How do believers reflect righteous anger?  Why is the line between righteous anger and sinful anger so difficult to navigate?

3. List 3 things that make you angry? Why do they anger you?

4. Is simply 'sucking it up' or 'letting it go' an appropriate response in all situations that cause anger? Why or why not?

5. In this passage from Matthew 5 Jesus is taking the law of Moses a step even further, making it stricter rather than easier. Find some more passages in the NT where this is the case.

6. When is it the hardest for you to 'give up your right to be right'? Why? How can you grow in this area?  Is there anyone you need to seek reconilation with?  Why is this so difficult?

7. Read 2 Corinthians 10:5-7. How does this apply and how do we begin to do this?

8.  How do we find hope in our battle with anger and Jesus as our reconciler?
