MISSION COMMUNITIES

At Mission Church you will see a diverse group of people with diverse interests and diverse talents. We believe that this should be the case to best display the glory of God. The Bible tells us that the church is the body of Christ and as such we should be the visible expression of God’s love (Ephesians 4:11-13, 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, John 13:35). This allows us to share our giftedness with each other to build up the body in Christ. We believe that this is best accomplished outside the walls of the ‘church’. Our desire is that every attendee of our worship service would be a part of a mission community and that through that experience would have opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our city and in the world. These mission communities enable us all to share our talents, our burdens, our concerns, and our lives with one another. We see this as our opportunity to experience life together, not out of obligation or compulsion, but because this is where we see Jesus most displayed in the lives of believers. Mission Communities are not something we do but something we are.

PASTORAL CARE

Mission Communities are designed to offer support through pastoral care from trained and equipped leaders (2 Timothy 2:2) as well as our peers and fellow believers. The Bible calls the church a family and as a family cares for their own we see it as our responsibility to do so as well. Our communities strive to model the same sacrificial love, helping each other in all the ways a family would when needs arise.

DISCIPLESHIP

At Mission Church we seek to worship Jesus by making disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19-20). We believe that this starts when people begin living life, ordinary life, together and being transparent with one another (1 John 1:7). We want everyone to look more and more like Jesus and these communities are devoted to doing that for everyone who is a part. These groups are designed to call us all back to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and deepen our faith in him through sharpening one another (Proverbs 27:17), serving our people and our city (Jeremiah 29:7), loving one another (John 13:34), and helping each other live more like Christ (1 John 2:6),every day not just once a week (Hebrews 3:13).

MISSION

This is the most important component of community. At Mission Church we seek to be missionaries in all walks of life. We want to be on mission corporately and individually at all times. We believe that it is the responsibility of all followers of Jesus to make disciples and this starts with the sharing of the gospel (see summary in Our Beliefs). Mission communities are where we get this opportunity to be on mission together and to be equipped and readied to be able to do it on our own. We believe we are called to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31) and will do so while also sharing the good news of Jesus. It is the goal of every mission community to grow in it’s own context and to plant more communities, filled with true followers of Christ, along the way.
