Mark 7:14-23
October 22, 2023 Speaker: Eric Baker Series: Who Is This? A Portrait of Jesus Through the Gospel of Mark
Passage: Mark 7:14–23
Missional Community Questions:
1. Reread Mark 7:14-23. If possible, listen to the sermon(s) again.
2. Looking back over this sermon and this sermon series, how has God convicted your heart, stirred your affections for Jesus, drawn you closer to Him? How has the Word challenged, confused, or made you ask questions?
3. WEEKLY QUESTION: Who Is This? In what ways were your views of Jesus challenged, changed, or reinforced by this weeks sermon and text? In what ways have your thoughts about Jesus changed as you have matured in your faith?
4. Verse 15 says that “nothing outside” of the body going inside can defile someone. But we also know that the Bible would call out sins like drugs, alcohol, gluttony, etc. How would you explain that that does not contradict? And also explain why it still matters that we abstain from those things that the Bible calls sin?
5. “Don’t miss Jesus by checking boxes.” How do you see this happen in your life? What sin on the list in verse 21-23 is expressed when that occurs?
6. I have said for years at Hope House that Jesus seems to be far more concerned with why we are doing things than what we are doing. One: is this true? Two: What exactly does this mean based on scripture?
7. How does knowing that there is nothing you can do can change your heart or save your soul sound discouraging at first but then becomes the most reassuring truth?
